About the Course

Whether you’re actually implementing ISO9001 or investigating the resource needs for a successful implementation of ISO9001 - this is the course for you.  The course is taught by QAI’s certified auditors and course facilitators.   

This course is designed for team members that will be responsible for creating the documentation necessary and implementing the ISO9001 Quality Management System.  There is a lot of responsibility associated with the implementation.  A system that is easy-to-use and is effective will beat a canned approach any day because results will be more meaningful. There will be a lot less resistance to learning. 

In three activity packed days, students will learn and effectively implement 14-step programs that will immerse them in the activities necessary to create an effective Quality Management System. 

We start by describing QAI’s plan for implementation.  Naturally, this plan can be modified to fit anyone's business needs. The class will progress along the QAI plan that will take an organization to the focused target of ISO9001.  Each student will develop a plan that works backward from the target date.  As reality sets in, students realize there is a lot of work to be done in a short period of time. In order to meet their goals, they need real and supportive training.  Students need tools that will help them now and in the future.

After walking students through a clause-by-clause explanation of the standard, each student performs a gap analysis which helps to specifically define what is left for them to do in order to get registered.   The class will proceed through each step of the required plan.  "How to create documents that work well for ISO9001" is a workshop activity to help guide students away from common landmines and errors.  Students learn about effective documentation for ISO9001.  They learn how to create a policy statement that will meet requirements and become the basis for the rest of their system.  An activity reinforces the requirements of the quality manual and what makes a quality manual usable.  Students can use the Quality Manual that they already have or create one from the template provided. 

The required processes for ISO9001:2015 are described and students will learn to create sample procedures to meet process requirements in the event that their organization might choose to meet process requirements in written form.  Templates are provided to speed the creation of procedures. Required forms are listed.  Students compare requirements to forms that may already exist.  Tips are provided to help. New forms are created.  Students then begin to review the plan for rollout, employee education, and internal audits. 

How to handle, document and make corrective actions is described. The audit cycle is discussed, including external audits.  The registration process is described.  Tips are provided for hiring the registrar and when to hire.  As the course begins to wind down, the final deployment stages, training requirements, and planning for the stage one audit are discussed. As findings and opportunities for improvement are addressed, a certification audit is described.  The step-by-step plan is complete. Finally, there is a discussion  about the challenging part: staying registered!

When students leave they will have:

  • A plan for implementation based on the goal date.
  • Well defined action plan that includes a timeline of activities.
  • The knowledge of the requirements for becoming registered, including resource needs.
  • A quality policy, a quality manual, and some of the six required procedures.
  • A plan for education of employees.
  • A methodology for risk analysis
  • Knowledge of the certification process and what exactly occurs.
  • A plan to stay registered.

The course includes sample templates that can be used afterwards to speed up the design, implementation, and deployment of your ISO9001 QMS system.
